The Position

The Employee Experience, Inclusion and Operations Director will be part of the RAN Leadership team and will report to the Deputy Executive Director. In collaboration with the Executive, Leadership and Administrative team this person will act as the owner for all employee relations matters in the organization. This is an outstanding opportunity for a seasoned HR leader who wants to put their passion for coaching, leadership, relationship building, dispute resolution and staff and organizational development to work for an organization committed to protecting our planet and its inhabitants.

To be successful in this role, candidates should have at least 10 years of progressive HR experience that includes significant experience leading HR functions in a nonprofit setting and a demonstrated ability to provide strategic guidance on building organizational effectiveness and manage complex employee relations issues. This position will play a key role in ensuring those values are echoed in our employee relations matters, guidance and coaching of staff and managers and in the administration of conflict resolution.

Specific duties:

Management and Operations

• Establish and maintain a collaborative, service-oriented team to deliver efficient, professional, and compassionate HR results.
• Supervise HR Generalist and PEO.
  • Assign work and establish standards and priorities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry and record management.
  • Benefits administration and oversight of the PEO.
  • Work with the PEO to ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, Leaves of absence and ADA process.
• Responsible for overseeing physical office space, including adequacy for interaction with remote staff, lease negotiations, and real estate prospecting.
• Oversee information systems administration by third party ensuring ongoing maintenance and upgrading of all technology.
• Create and maintain disaster recovery plan.
• Serve as back-up support for other HR and office matters and when assigned staff are unavailable.

Employee Experience Oversight

• Ensure proactive and impactful Employee Relations support.
• Directs and coordinates the Employee Relations function, stepping in on highly sensitive, complex, or confidential issues including conducting investigations, EEOC claims, and grievances.
• Oversee recruitment, hiring, retention and compensation
  • Job authorization and hiring process, including recommendations on compensation and job grades.
  • Advise supervisors to ensure integrity and consistency in hiring, salary, performance reviews, promotion, termination and all other employee decisions.
  • Ensure development and training of staff on hiring and retention practices.
  • Ensure quality and consistency in new hire onboarding procedures and in the implementation of all personnel policies.
  • Regularly evaluate and update employee performance systems and compensation guidelines to ensure adequate compliance.
• Develop and deliver trainings to support inclusive and equitable HR practices, staff development, and management training plan for new and existing RAN managers.
• Serve as the primary owner of staff policies and employee handbook revisions and updates to ensure accurate, effective practices.
• Serve as an organizational advocate for equity, inclusion, and justice.
• Responsible for complex conflict management and employee support associated with change management and workplace investigations (in coordination with PEO).
  • Engage in complex conflict resolution to mediate or resolve disputes or on-going concerns while applying our Equity, Inclusion and Justice values.
  • Identify and escalate critical matters to ED and/or LT.

Organizational Leadership and Planning

• In collaboration with RAN leadership and staff, help build and maintain a culture that reflects RAN's core values and aligns with our anti-oppression principles.
• Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality.
• Create and upkeep organizational systems of policies and internal controls.
• Responsible for carrying out the HR and Operations priorities as included in the 5-year organizational Strategic Plan.
• Undertake special projects, such as geographic pay adjustments, salary benchmarking, PEO evaluation, office move, succession planning, etc.

• Ability to diagnose and successfully handle organizational development issues.
• Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills - must be an articulate and persuasive communicator to all levels.
• Ability to interface with PEO on current state and Federal employment laws, and guide the organization on appropriate record keeping requirements. Knowledge of HR systems and employment record keeping requirements.
• Detail-oriented, proactive, excellent organization and time management skills, good collaborator.
• A commitment to the environment and social change.
• A good sense of humor.

Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 10 plus years (progressive in nature) of work experience in the Human Resources field that includes managing HR professionals and Administrative teams.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex employee relations issues and workplace investigations.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strategic guidance on building organizational effectiveness, staff development and performance management.
• Demonstrated track record of developing effective relationships across all levels of the organization.
• Prior experience building HR function/capacity within an organization preferred.
• PHR or SPHR certification preferred.

COMPENSATION

This is a 4 days/week position based in our San Francisco office. Target salary range at 80% employment is intended to be between $65,000 - $75,000 with the final salary determination being based on candidate experience, overall qualifications and geographic location. Benefits include full health coverage for the employee and their partner/family, an employer funded HSA, vision & dental insurance, pro-rated 4 weeks PTO (increases to 5 weeks after 2 years), and a Simple IRA retirement plan with a 3% fully vested employer match. Additionally, after 5 years, staff are eligible for a 3 month fully-paid sabbatical.
