GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of park facilities, grounds, vehicles and equipment, as required. This position oversees a wide range of responsibilities to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of park facilities and services. Responsibilities include enforcing codes, maintaining lawns and landscapes, performing tree work, controlling erosion, and repairing roads. They operate equipment, manage trash removal, handle reception duties, and serve as a cashier. The position will patrol the park and enforce rules and regulations for the protection of the park, visitors, and wildlife, when necessary. This position assists with the protection and conservation of defined park areas to protect natural resources, ecosystems, and wildlife within park areas, and interacts with visitors. Additionally, they manage public relations, assist park guests, resolve conflicts, control traffic and parking, and oversee wildlife rescue efforts. They also plan and manage park events, oversee rentals, and ensure park security by opening and closing facilities. This position works according to procedures and decides how or when to do things, under supervision. Work is frequently reviewed by a supervisor.

  • Performs general Maintenance of park facilities, including custodial duties, carpentry/minor construction, electrical and plumbing work.
  • Conducts Park patrols and engages in public interaction, providing excellent customer service.
  • Assist with special projects, park programs, event planning, and event management
  • Maintain grounds by performing tasks such as grass cutting, trimming, and landscaping to uphold park aesthetics.
  • Assist Park Ranger III and Park Superintendent in the enforcement of park rules and regulations to ensure visitor safety and compliance.
  • Register campers and park users.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, with potential for overnight stays in the absence of Park Superintendent and/or Park Ranger II or Park Ranger III.
  • Maintains trails and campgrounds.
  • Cleans bathrooms and bath houses.
  • Repairs damage from storms and vandalism.
  • Work on projects and construction tasks.
  • Operates park office functions, including managing reservations and email correspondence.
  • Manages gatehouse operations to greet and assist park visitors.
  • Handles public relations to promote positive visitor experiences.
  • Operates equipment for various park maintenance and construction tasks.
  • Controls traffic flow and ensures parking efficiency during peak times.
  • Responds to emergencies and provides basic medical assistance as needed.
  • Performs HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and minor construction tasks as required for park upkeep.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to perform and maintain a safe working environment.

Ability to operate power equipment such as saws, tools, trimmers, chain saws, blowers, lawn equipment.

General Maintenance skills as listed in Job Duties.

Ability to operate (within reason) a computer, with an understanding of Excel and/or park software.

Be able to make deposits and perform basic math when required.

Customer Service Skills.

Ability to effectively communicate.

Basic problem solving and critical thinking skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:

Required : Valid driver's license.

Preferred : Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, General Maintenance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

This position has the following special vision requirements: close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less); distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up or down and to the left and right when vision is fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships); adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a demanding indoor and/or outdoor work environment; may encounter noise, weather, extreme temperatures, moisture, humidity, dust, odors, fumes, gases, mechanical hazards, chemical hazards, explosive hazards, burn hazards, moving mechanical parts, or working in high places. In the performance of their duties, employees may be required to use personal protective equipment such as face masks, goggles, boots, gloves or eye shields.
